Who we are
Beginning in 2020, Eric and Kathleen began growing and selling mushrooms to local restaurants and local farmers markets as Hill Haven Farms. Hill Haven was the original family name of a farm in Southern New Hampshire, owned by Eric's grandfather Lyman Hill.
We have now expanded into the more technical aspects, including sterile lab work and culture development. We now are proud to offer organic triple extract mushroom tinctures.
FAQs
What is triple extraction?
Triple extraction, a process involving the use of alcohol, water, and ultrasonics to extract compounds from mushrooms, offers several advantages over traditional methods:
Enhanced Compound Extraction
Alcohol: Alcohol, particularly ethanol, is an excellent solvent for many bioactive compounds found in mushrooms, including alkaloids, terpenoids, and phenols.
Water: Water is essential for extracting hydrophilic compounds, such as polysaccharides and beta-glucans, which are known for their immune-modulating properties.
Ultrasonics: Ultrasonic waves disrupt cell walls, increasing the surface area available for solvent contact and enhancing the extraction of both hydrophilic and lipophilic compounds.
Broader Spectrum of Compounds
Synergistic Effects: By combining alcohol and water, triple extraction can capture a wider range of compounds than using either solvent alone. This broader spectrum may lead to more potent and well-rounded health benefits.
Complete Extraction: Ultrasonic cavitation further aids in extracting compounds that might be difficult to obtain using traditional methods.
Improved Bioavailability
Enhanced Absorption: The combination of solvents and ultrasonic treatment can increase the bioavailability of extracted compounds, ensuring that your body can better absorb and utilize them.
Faster Onset: Triple extraction may lead to a quicker onset of effects compared to other extraction methods.
Efficiency and Sustainability
Reduced Processing Time: Ultrasonic extraction is often faster than traditional methods, reducing processing time and costs.
Lower Solvent Usage: By optimizing the extraction process, triple extraction can minimize the amount of solvents used, contributing to a more sustainable approach.
Preservation of Compounds
Gentle Extraction: Ultrasonic extraction is a relatively gentle process that can help preserve the delicate compounds found in mushrooms, reducing the risk of degradation.
What are the benefits of mushroom tinctures?
Mushroom tinctures are believed to offer various health benefits, including:
Boosting immunity: Certain mushrooms, such as reishi and turkey tail, are thought to strengthen the immune system.
Reducing inflammation: Mushrooms like lion's mane and chaga are known for their anti-inflammatory properties.
How long will a mushroom tincture last?
Mushroom tinctures can last for several years when stored properly. This is because the alcohol content acts as a natural preservative.
Here are some tips for storing your mushroom tincture to ensure its longevity:
Keep it in a cool, dark place: Avoid exposing the tincture to direct sunlight or heat.
Store it in a tightly sealed container: This will help prevent the alcohol from evaporating.
What is the correct dosage for mushroom tincture?
The correct dosage for mushroom tincture can vary depending on several factors, including:
The type of mushroom: Different mushrooms have different active compounds and potency.
The desired effects: The dosage may vary depending on whether you're taking the tincture for immune support, cognitive function, or other benefits.
Your individual health and body weight: Your body's response to the tincture may vary.
It's generally recommended to start with a low dose and gradually increase it as needed. This can help you assess your tolerance and determine the optimal dosage for your specific needs.
Here's a general guideline:
Begin with a small amount: Start with a few drops or a quarter of a teaspoon.
Monitor your response: Pay attention to how your body reacts to the tincture.
Increase the dosage gradually: If needed, increase the dosage by a few drops or a quarter of a teaspoon at a time.
It's important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medications. They can provide personalized advice and help you determine the appropriate dosage for your individual needs.
Remember: The dosage information provided here is a general guideline and may not be suitable for everyone. Always consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
